Crowdsourcing Warmth: Our Partnership with Project Linus

Crowdsourcing Warmth: Our Partnership with Project Linus

What happens after you drop off your finished 7” x 9” square at the Pickcode booth?

Every square donated to Blanket Statement becomes part of a larger community blanket. In this post, we take a look behind the scenes at how hundreds of individual contributions become cozy blankets for Project Linus.

About Project Linus

Project Linus is a national non-profit organization that provides handmade blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. Since its founding, Project Linus has delivered more than 10 million blankets nationwide.

The Journey of a Blanket Block

  1. Collection: Blocks are gathered from conference participants, logged, and organized by color.
  2. Layout & Arrangement: Blanket Statement then arranges 24 to 49 blocks into attractive patchwork designs.
  3. Seaming: The blocks are crocheted or mattress-stitched together with coordinating yarn.
  4. Bordering: A clean decorative border (single crochet or crab stitch) is added around the perimeter for durability and finish.
  5. Blanket Statement then contacts their local Project Linus chapter and arranges for pick-up or delivery.
  6. Quality Check & Labeling: Each blanket receives an official Project Linus label and is inspected for safety (secure tails, softness, washability).
  7. Delivery: Local chapters deliver the blankets to pediatric hospitals, shelters, and crisis centers.

How You Can Help Beyond the Conference

Can’t attend in person? You can knit or crochet blocks at home and mail them to us, or donate them to your local Project Linus chapter.
