Blanket Statement

Fidget Productively at CSTA 2026

About Blanket Statement

Folks who knit / crochet when attending talks and meetings do so in order to help maintain focus on the talk. Some of us are just not wired to sit still. Using our hands keeps our brains from wandering from the speaker.

We've all seen it - people checking their phones during conference sessions. Maybe they are looking up something relevant to the session but likely not. Then there are those people knitting and crocheting during conference sessions. You can bet that they are paying attention to the speaker. Don’t believe it? Ask them! Then ask the person on the phone the same question.

Try it!

Blanket Statement advocates productive fidgeting.

Before you head into your conference sessions, come by the Pickcode booth and pick some up supplies to help make a blanket for a child in need.

Don’t know how to knit? Come by the Pickcode booth and learn!

What are we making? We are making blankets for Project Linus, one block at a time. It’s crowdsourcing a blanket!

When you finish your block, drop it off at the Pickcode booth. Be sure to fill out a tag so we can give you credit.

Instructions:

  • Knit or crochet 7” x 9” blocks (or 9” X 7”, direction doesn’t matter) There is a ruler on the ball band.
  • Drop completed blocks off at the Pickcode booth or reach out to Devorah at blanketstatementproject@gmail.com
  • Enjoy the conference!
