Blanket Statement

Fidget Productively at CSTA 2020

About Blanket Statement

We've all seen it - those people knitting and crocheting during conference sessions. Maybe you're one of them.

Did you know that many people knit when attending talks and meetings and that it helps them maintain focus on the talk? This year, with the conference running remotely, ignoring those distractions on your computer is going to be difficult for some. But not if your hands are busy!

Blanket Statement is advocating productive fidgeting.

Before you sit down at your computer for your conference sessions, pick up a knitting or crocheting project. Don’t have one in progress? Start one!

Can’t figure out what to start? Then make a block or more for Project Linus or Warm Up America.

After the conference either mail to or drop them off at your local drop off site or email me for my address and send them to me. I will incorporate them into a CSTA 2020 blanket and donate it once my local Project Linus chapter is accepting donations again.

Instructions (if you already knit or crochet):

  • Use a worsted weight (medium weight) acrylic yarn using any pattern and any color that makes you happy.
  • Knit or crochet 7” x 9” blocks (or 9” X 7”, direction doesn’t matter)
  • Suggested needle size is 8, suggested hook size is I, feel free to use whatever other size that works best for you.
  • This is a great opportunity to use up leftover yarn!
  • Share pictures on twitter or instagram and make sure to tag @BlanketStmtProj and use the hashtags #csta2020 and #productivefidgeting.
  • Enjoy the conference!
